Location: Rock, Cornwall.
A 1970s bungalow reconfigured, extended and enhanced. Wrapped in charred timber, filled with light, and completely reborn from the inside out

Inkwood is what happens when you decide not to knock it down, and your client is an Interior Designer. StudioHaB took a modest bungalow in Rock and transformed it into a five-bedroom contemporary home through extension, vaulted ceilings and a natural material palette so considered it feels like it grew here rather than was built.
The charred larch cladding sets the tone outside: dark, textured and quietly confident against the Cornish landscape. Inside, the mood shifts: morning light pours through soaring vaulted ceilings and a fully glazed gable, flooding the kitchen and dining space with warmth. The kitchen itself is beautifully restrained: stone-topped island, pale timber cabinetry, nothing superfluous. Off it, a terracotta snug with a wood-burning stove offers the kind of corner you want to share with friends on a cold winter’s night.
Inkwood proves that sometimes the best thing to do with a tired bungalow is keep it… and make it extraordinary.
