Tucked into a wooded valley in Perranporth, Wren Cottage feels a world away from the coast, yet is only minutes from it. The original stone cottage retains its character through exposed rubble walls, painted beams, lime-plastered rooms and a wood-burning stove. Studio HAB’s brief was to extend without diminishing it, creating a home where old and new enhance rather than compete with each other.

A dark timber addition opens to the garden through a full-height glass corner, blurring the boundary between inside and out. An oak kitchen, warm lime-plaster walls and carefully chosen natural materials create a calm, considered interior, while upstairs a large picture window frames the wooded valley beyond. Throughout, the original building is treated with care, revealing rather than concealing its character. Outside, a mature garden of lavender, iris and perennial borders, enclosed by dry-stone walls, completes a home that feels as though it has always belonged here.
